London, UK – Global law firm Sullivan & Worcester is delighted to announce it has been named Best Export Finance Law Firm at the Global Trade Review (GTR) "Leaders in Trade Awards" 2023.

The GTR award represents the fifth year running that Sullivan has been recognised at GTR’s Leaders in Trade Awards. In 2022, the firm was named "Best trade or supply chain finance law firm," and in 2021 it was named "Law firm of the year" in the category "Leaders in Trade for Innovation."

The GTR Leaders in Trade Awards highlight excellence in the trade, commodity, supply chain and export finance and fintech markets. The awards were presented at GTR’s 2023 Annual Charity Awards dinner, held in London on May 3.

Sullivan has one of the most highly respected export finance and export credit agency (ECA) practices, with London partners Mark Norris and Simon Cook having extensive sector experience in export finance, ECA and multi-lateral financing across growth and emerging markets, in particular in Africa and Latin America.

Mark Norris commented: “Sullivan’s Export Finance practice has built steadily over the last decade, advising on short, medium and long-term ECA, export finance and multi-lateral financings across growth and emerging markets. We are so delighted that the team has been recognised for its expertise and the depth and breadth of its work. We have worked closely with our clients on some of the most innovative export and export credit transactions in some of the most challenging jurisdictions. We look forward to continuing to support clients in this dynamic sector.”

Geoffrey Wynne, head of the Trade & Export Finance Group and Sullivan’s London office, added: “For Sullivan to have been recognised by GTR’s annual awards for five consecutive years is a genuine testament to our clients’ loyalty and the team we have in London and the US. This fantastic endorsement will continue to ensure that our high quality team is able to do more for our clients whenever and wherever they need that support the most. This award is particularly welcomed as it reflects the breadth of our practice."

Sullivan’s trade and export finance team works with banks, financial institutions, funds, ECAs, multi-laterals, corporate borrowers, agents and trustees, and national and international organisations providing the full range of trade, commodity and export finance services, often in developing markets.

The combination of the team’s expertise in London and New York ensures the firm advises on export and export credit financings under English and New York law and covers all cross border issues. The firm also advises on restructurings, disputes, insurance and regulatory issues relating to trade and export finance transactions.

Part of the firm’s global finance practice, Sullivan’s trade, export and emerging markets finance practice handles multi-jurisdictional transactions and matters for clients across trade and export finance, project finance, asset finance, securitisation, securities law, insurance, tax, compliance and dispute resolution.

The team advises on deals involving all types of structures and commodities including softs, metals, oil and gas, as well as receivables, structured financial instruments, trade services, export credit and ECA and trade disputes across emerging markets.

The firm also advises across the growing digitalisation and fintech areas, involving work for clients and associations such as the ICC, BAFT and ITFA in drafting rules and guidance for the fintech world.
