Daniel Ryan was quoted in the article "Lawyers: Businesses Relieved as OBBBA Extends Sunsetting Tax Provisions," published by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly [sub. req'd] on September 3, 2025. The article examines the impact of the newly enacted One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), which extends and modifies several provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA).

"Since it’s an extension of previously existing law, there’s not as much excitement in the tax community about [the OBBBA], other than to say I’m glad [the TCJA] has been extended for the business community,” Dan said. He also addressed OBBBA’s overhaul of the opportunity zone program, noting that new reporting requirements and Treasury oversight will bring long-awaited transparency: “I think it’s going to silence a lot of the critics of the program,” he said. “We’ll finally get an idea of whether it was basically helping developers who happen to be in areas that were on the road to gentrification or not, which I think was probably the biggest criticism of the program and probably pretty fair under the circumstances.”

In addition, Dan commented on the challenges facing clean energy developers as tax incentives are phased out. “These credits get factored into the financing for these large-scale products, and then the rug gets pulled out from under them, if they’re not far along on it,” he explained, pointing to the uncertainty now surrounding project financing in the sector.
