ABA 2026 Fall Tax Meeting
When: October 9, 2026 at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PMNext Month
Location: Seattle, Washington or Virtual
People: Richard L. Jones

From October 5-9, the American Bar Association will host its 2026 Fall Tax Meeting. On October 9th, Richard Jones will participate in a panel program titled “Come As You Are: Residency Audits, Wealth Taxes, and State Revenue Strategies.” The special State and Local Tax sessions will be held at Perkins Coie LLP in Seattle, Washington, with a virtual attendance option also available.

As taxpayers become increasingly mobile and states face mounting revenue pressures, the taxation of high-net-worth individuals has become one of the most dynamic areas of state and local tax. The panel will explore recent developments in residency changes and audits, wealth tax proposals, millionaire surtaxes, pied-à-terre taxes and other emerging state revenue strategies. The discussion will address the policy considerations driving these initiatives and the practical implications for taxpayers, advisors and state tax administrators as individuals reconsider where they live, work, invest and retire.

Richard will join moderator Masha Yevzelman of Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. and fellow panelist Emma Savino of Hodgson Russ LLP for a discussion of current trends, potential legal challenges and what the future may hold as states navigate the intersection of taxpayer mobility and revenue needs.
