Ameek Ashok Ponda was quoted in the article "IRS Makes a Move on Cloud Transaction Sourcing Rule," published by Thomson Reuters on July 18, 2025. The article focuses on the IRS's recent hearing on July 17 about proposed rules for sourcing income from cloud transactions under international tax law, drawing mixed feedback: industry groups criticized the rules as overly complex, while some stakeholders argued for careful refinements rather than outright withdrawal.

Ameek suggested the IRS should be mindful of possible impacts on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), urging caution in applying such regulations in the REIT context.

"The source rules adopt a composite view, not a bifurcated view, of whether something is a cloud transaction,” said Ameek, viewing it as "an all or nothing."

Rules concerning REITs “have a very different framework,” he added, wherein by establishing an "anchor relationship of renting real estate,” you may then add rent-related services and a negligible amount of “rental for personal property.”
