Structuring Commodity and Trade Finance in Africa: an Expert Guide
When: March 28, 2023
Location: ITFA Africa Regional Committee Educational Webinar
People: Simon Cook

Simon Cook, together with Duarte Pedreira of Crown Agents Bank, shared thoughts on structuring trade finance and commodity finance deals in Africa at the second of ITFA’s (the International Trade and Forfaiting Association) Africa Regional Committee’s (ARC) Educational Webinars being held on March 28, 2023.

The webinars are part of the ARC’s outreach to African financial institutions and are aimed at financial professionals working in Africa. They will explore topical issues in trade, the basics of trade finance, with insights and learnings drawn from ITFA’s network of experts.

This session focused on why structuring transactions is important, how it can be used to address the trade finance gap and look at key legal considerations. It was followed by an online Q&A.

Further information about this webinar and the earlier webinar on the same day (‘Sustainable trade finance and African trade: Giving an African voice to evolving standards on sustainable trade’ hosted by Tedd George (Kleos Advisory) with an expert panel involving George Wilson (Investec & ARC Chair), Anne-Marie Woolley (African Global Trade Finance) and Edmund Bala-Gbogbo (Afreximbank)) can be found here.

Simon Cook was re-elected to ITFA’s ARC in January 2023 and was one of just eight full voting members on the original ITFA ARC, established in November 2017. He also is a member of ITFA’s Executive Board, and in October 2021 was appointed its Head of Education.
