Robert is a project finance lawyer with an extensive track record advising sponsors, lenders, investors and public authorities in relation to the development and implementation of infrastructure and energy projects in a wide range of industry sectors, including renewable energy, social infrastructure, telecommunications, transport and natural resources. He has advised on numerous projects outside the UK, with a particular focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.

Robert's experience covers a wide range of debt products and capital structures for both greenfield and brownfield assets, as well as other limited or non-recourse financing techniques (acquisition finance, asset finance and reserve based lending) and secured and unsecured corporate lending.

  • Econet Wireless Group in relation to a succession of syndicated and bilateral secured facilities from lenders including Afreximbank, DEG, Proparco, China Development Bank, TDB and Ericsson Credit AB
  • The African Financing Partnership, an association of DFIs and IFIs, in relation to the standardisation of loan and syndication process documentation for co-financing infrastructure projects
  • DEG, Proparco and FMO in relation to a 40MW on-grid solar IPP in Kenya under the feed-in tariff regime
  • The African Development Bank and the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector in relation to the project financing of a hospital in the Gambia
  • An ECA in relation to the project financing of a 900MW mine mouth oil shale fired IPP in Jordan
  • A Taiwanese leasing company in relation to the financing of a portfolio of distributed solar PV projects in the UK
  • Companhia Mocambicana de Gasoduto S.A. (CMG) in relation to the financing of the acquisition of an interest in a natural gas pipeline from Mozambique to South Africa 
  • The sponsor in relation to a $40M project financing from the IFC, DEG and Proparco of a commercial real estate development in Tanzania
  • The sponsors in relation to the termination of the Arrow Light Rail PPP project due to a network extension
