Zoning Amendment Could Halt Somerville's Lab Boom, Says Panel
Jennifer Schultz was quoted in the article, "Zoning Amendment Could Halt Somerville's Lab Boom, Says Panel," published in the Boston Business Journal [sub. req.] on May 27, 2021.
The article discusses a proposed zoning amendment in Somerville that would in effect curb the development of lab buildings in the city by limiting the height of rooftop mechanical systems in certain districts. According to Jenn, “[i]t’s not that it’s out of the ordinary to regulate the height of the building mechanicals, but it should be done in a way that doesn’t de facto prohibit lab use, especially in an area of the city where lab has specifically been zoned as an allowed use." She added: "Everyone wants to be the next Kendall Square. I’m actually seeing it happen in Somerville."
