The Secret to Success for Diverse Attorneys: Work Allocation
Angela Gomes and Ojen Sirin co-wrote the article "The Secret to Success for Diverse Attorneys: Work Allocation," which was published in the Winter 2021 issue of Savoy magazine.
The article discusses the importance of an equitable work allocation process within law firms for associates of color and women associates, to ensure that diverse talent receives substantive and rewarding work experience. At Sullivan & Worcester, for example, a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) professional is responsible for ensuring equitable work assignments for its women and minority attorneys, resulting in strengthened associate performance and pathways to partnership for many.
“Giving minority and women attorneys the opportunity to control their career path through a formal work assignment process with someone actually focused on diversity, equality and inclusion," said Ojen, who oversees the work allocation system and diversity efforts at the firm, "has been a game changer for the development of our associates.”
