Press Release
April 20, 2021

London, UK – International law firm Sullivan is pleased to announce that for the third consecutive year it has been recognised at Global Trade Review’s (GTR) 2021 Leaders in Trade awards. This year it has been named ‘Law firm of the year’ in the category ‘Leaders in Trade for Innovation.'

The Leaders in Trade awards highlight excellence in the trade, commodity, supply chain and export finance and fintech markets.

Geoffrey Wynne, head of the Trade & Export Finance Group and Sullivan’s London office, commented: "After such a turbulent year, and in such challenging times, I am thrilled that Sullivan’s trade and export finance team has won such a prestigious award, and for the third year in a row. Winning this new category of ‘Leaders in Trade for Innovation’ clearly recognises our work in relation to digitalisation and our capacity to embrace emerging technologies. This award is a testament both to our established and very loyal, as well as our new, clients who support us, as well as our growing, high quality trade and export finance team in London and the U.S."

The award recognition from GTR comments: "Already a market leader in trade finance, advising more than 50 banks lenders and funds, during 2020 the firm showed its ability to support industry efforts to digitalise operations and streamline activities."

Geoffrey Wynne continued: "2020 saw an exponential rise in the need for virtual solutions. We advised on all aspects of e-documentation, e-signatures, DLT and other fintech issues, helping to find solutions to significant challenges faced by clients. The need for the global digitalisation of trade, once quite slow to be accepted, is now here to stay."

In London, the team works with banks, financial institutions, funds, corporate borrowers, agents and trustees, and national and international organisations providing the full range of trade, commodity and export finance services, often in developing markets. The combination of expertise in London and New York ensures the firm can advise on structured financings under English and New York law and cover all cross border issues. The firm also advises on disputes, insurance and regulatory issues relating to trade and export finance transactions.

Part of the firm’s global finance practice, Sullivan’s trade, export and emerging market finance practice handles multi-jurisdictional transactions and matters for clients across trade and export finance, project finance, asset finance, securitisation, securities law, insurance, tax, compliance issues and dispute resolution. The team advises on deals involving all types of commodities including softs, metals, oil and gas, as well as receivables, structured financial instruments, trade services, Export Credit Agency (ECA) and trade disputes across all emerging markets.  The firm also advises across the growing digitalisation and fintech areas, involving work for clients and associations such as the ICC, BAFT and ITFA in drafting rules and guidance for the fintech world.
