How to Win a US Tax Dispute

International Tax Review
May 3, 2012

Douglas S. Stransky was quoted in an article entitled “How to Win a US Tax Dispute,” published in International Tax Review on May 3, 2012. In the article, Mr. Stransky comments on a recent study that reviewed nearly 1,000 U.S. Supreme Court cases in which the government alleged there had been abusive tax planning. According to the study, the Internal Revenue Service won more than 60% of such cases. The study then offers practical advice for how the data can be used in tax planning and defending such planning. In his comments, Mr. Stransky disputes the findings of the study and offers his own practical advice for winning a tax dispute.
