Associate Positions, Investment Management — Washington, D.C.

Sullivan & Worcester is looking for a junior associate and a midlevel associate to join its Investment Management Group in Washington, D.C.

Mid-level candidates should have experience with the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 or related experience. Related experience includes working with investment advisers and other fund service providers on regulatory, compliance and business matters; advising boards of directors/trustees on fund governance and fiduciary oversight matters.

Junior candidates should have experience with the matters set forth above or general corporate and securities work.

All candidates must have an excellent academic background, possess strong interpersonal skills, work well in a team environment, demonstrate strong writing skills and be self-motivated. Sullivan & Worcester will consider candidates interested in flexible or reduced hours arrangements.

Associate Position, Corporate — Boston, MA

Sullivan's Corporate Group delivers comprehensive corporate legal services to domestic and international organizations in all stages of development. We are seeking a mid-level associate to join our Corporate Group in Boston. The ideal candidate will have three to six years of experience handling substantive components of a variety of corporate and transactional matters, including capital markets, M&A and finance. The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, work well in a team, be detail-oriented and self-motivated. Associate/Counsel Position, Permitting & Land Use — Boston, MA

We are looking to hire an experienced permitting and land-use attorney with three to ten years of experience in Massachusetts. The right candidate will have at least three years of experience practicing before local zoning boards throughout Massachusetts, a solid understanding of M.G.L. c. 40A, and experience working on large-scale, complex projects. The ideal candidate will have more than three years of experience and will have experience beyond local zoning including other common local land-use regulations – e.g. wetlands and roadways – as well as state permits and approvals, including MEPA, DOT, and DEP. Preference is for an attorney who also has experience working on large-scale projects in Boston, Cambridge, and/or Somerville, and also for an attorney with experience resolving complex land-use issues in relation to title and easements. The candidate must be an excellent writer, be comfortable advocating at public meetings and hearings, and must be a hard worker.

We will consider a candidate in the greater New England area if they have more than seven years of permitting and land-use experience including local, state, and federal regulations and approvals.

The candidate will join a busy and rapidly growing permitting and land-use group that specializes in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville and represents large clients on projects generally ranging from 200,000 square feet to 2 million square feet.

Associate and Counsel Position, Real Estate Group — Boston, MA

Sullivan & Worcester's Real Estate Group is engaged in every aspect of the commercial real estate industry, including: acquisitions and dispositions, development, finance, leasing, zoning and environmental compliance and permitting, workouts and REITs. We represent a broad spectrum of clients, including owners, developers, investors, lenders and tenants in projects of all sizes.

We are seeking an attorney with 5+ years of experience to join our Real Estate Group. The ideal candidate will have general experience in real estate transactions including finance (construction and term), acquisitions/dispositions and diligence (title/survey). Strong joint venture experience is required.

We are also seeking a Counsel level candidate with 8+ years of experience with title and survey expertise. Former title company commercial underwriting experience is a plus.

Both candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, work well in a team, be detail-oriented and be self-motivated.

Associate Position, Tax — Boston, MA

Sullivan & Worcester's tax practice is one of the largest on the East Coast. Our tax attorneys can address the entire spectrum of tax-related legal problems, from tax planning for complex corporate reorganizations to representing clients in adversarial proceedings with the Internal Revenue Service and state tax authorities. The attorneys in Sullivan & Worcester’s benefits practice combine sophisticated techniques, in-depth tax expertise and years of experience to help employers develop and administer benefit policies and programs that best fit their needs. 

We are seeking a junior to mid-level associate for our Tax Department. The ideal candidate’s experience should include a tax background (through practice or academic experience), with either some exposure in executive compensation and/or traditional employee benefits or an interest in being trained in this subspecialty. We are willing to train someone who has a strong interest in this area. An LL.M. degree is preferred, but not necessary. Excellent credentials are required.
